CCHIPO - Constant Current High Power driver

V1.2 now available and shipping (1 May 2008)

V1.2 supercedes V1.1 and has 2 major operational changes as listed below

1) Maximum output voltage raised to 48V (previously 39V).

2) Open circuit protection is more robust and can now handle the load being applied or removed while the driver is still powered up without damage to CCHIPO. One still has to be careful to not damage the LEDs, since the driver will charge up the output capacitors (nearly 500uF worth) to 48V and if the LEDs are reconnected the surge can easily damage/destroy them before the current regulation causes the output voltage to return to the operating value.

V1.1 CCHIPO driver specification:

Side view of V1.1 driver board showing heatsink. Blue trimpot on rear right adjusts output current.

Top view of V1.1 driver board. All components are on the top side of the board. 4 Mounting holes (electrically isolated) are provided for the user.

Note 1: CCHIPO is open circuit protected, so if the load is disconnected the driver will limit the maximum output voltage to protect its circuitry. DO NOT reapply the load until the driver has discharged, failure to do this will either damage the LED(s) due to a 39V spike from the output capacitors or the circuitry. If the driver is powered up without a load, remove power and then wait at least 5 minutes for the capacitors to discharge before reconnecting the load and reapplying power.
